Ron works primarily with acrylics, blending in items from nature and other outside materials. Vibrancy of color works to explore emotion and introspection.
Artist’s Statement:
Ron Burgess uses canvas and acrylic pigments to explore emotions. His paintings are complex, and his painting styles range from geometric to color field to neo-Jackson Pollock.
Paint and canvas are just the beginning for
Burgess. Stucco, resins, sand, and/or spray starch may be added to the pigments; sponges, twine, cheesecloth, metal, and cardboard may be used to provide texture and pattern. With a few exceptions, the finished paintings are filled with strong, luminous color.
Emotional content is important to Burgess, and he welcomes viewers’ reactions and responses.
Burgess, who originally worked in etchings and pen-and-ink drawings has shown in Peninsula, San Francisco, and Fresno galleries. He moved to painting in order to work with larger formats and create texture by adding other materials. His knowledge of intaglio techniques surfaces in the use of brilliant colors and movement of paint.
Always a leader in the cultural life in the community, Burgess is a member (and past chair) of the South San Francisco Cultural Arts Commission, past member of the San Mateo County Arts Commission, past chair and founding member of the San Mateo County Arts Council, past treasurer of ArtShare, past president of Art Rise Theatre, and past Art Commissioner of Fresno City College.

Career Highlights:
Exhibitions in San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, Eureka, the Taiwan Museum of Art, represented in an exhibition by the Association of University Women, and worked with Buckminster Fuller in the design of the Pacific High School Campus.
